Identify the part that matters

A picture of a new bookshelf may show someone in the background. “Spare notebooks are on the second shelf” helps anyone looking for them. If a picture of the shelf would help, take a new one after the person leaves the frame. The fact might be the shelf location, the product model, or the condition of an item. Write down which of those the photo needs to show before deciding to share the image.

Make a clean copy

Take a new picture of the item against a plain background when possible. Check mirrors, screens, names on envelopes and other details that are easy to overlook. Open the exact copy you intend to send. If the photo came from someone else, ask whether they agree to this audience and use.

If the image already went out

Remove it from the shared record where you can, identify where it was sent, and tell the person what happened. Ask recipients to discard any downloaded copy. A replacement image can fix the ongoing shared record; it does not establish that previous readers no longer have the original.
