Check from the host first
If the service returns as soon as someone wakes the Mac, record the sleep condition and review the intended power settings. If the Mac remains awake but the local service fails, investigate the service itself. Avoid changing both the network route and the app configuration at the same time. A sleeping host, a stopped service and a lost Wi-Fi connection can produce the same symptom on a phone. Local access on the host helps separate them.
Change one condition at a time
Try the sample request while the host is awake. Let it reach its normal sleep state, then repeat from a second device. Wake the Mac without changing any app settings and try again. Record whether the service recovered on its own. If the host is awake and local requests fail too, check the service’s own status instead of changing client credentials.
Document the expected hours
Tell household members when the host is meant to stay available and who can investigate an outage. Test with harmless data before depending on remote access for a trip. If availability matters during sleep or unattended restarts, include that requirement when comparing local and hosted setups.
