Capture the provider's agreement first
Check that the provider actually agreed to two payments and save the amounts, dates and account reference. Splitting the figures in your household spreadsheet alone does not change when the provider expects payment. Keep its agreement beside the original bill so a different adult can understand the arrangement.
Make the balance visible after each payment
For an $80 bill, the starting balance is $80. After a confirmed $40 first payment, the outstanding balance is $40. A scheduled final transfer is still a scheduled transfer. The balance becomes zero when its result is confirmed and applied to the correct bill. Save a separate reference for each payment.
Track a changed installment without duplicating it
If the provider changes the second due date, update that payment only and keep the original agreement with the record. The next adult should be able to see the amount paid, the amount outstanding, and where the revised date came from.
If the provider reschedules the last $40 from Friday to Monday, edit that outstanding installment and preserve the earlier agreement. Do not create a second $40 task for Monday while Friday remains open. If the first payment was returned or reversed, reopen the relevant line and ask the provider what remains due.
