Use the service address, not the mailing label

Read the address the provider says received the service. The address where it sent the bill may be different. A former tenant might receive mail at a new home while the statement correctly describes the old one. Compare the account reference with the confirmation for ending or transferring service.

Build a short date timeline

Suppose the keys were returned on June 10, service at the new home began June 12, and a July statement covers June 1–15 at the old address. Check the agreed service-end date for that account. The key handoff alone does not necessarily establish when the provider agreed to stop billing.

Ask about the specific mismatch

For example, a final statement might arrive weeks after you handed back the keys. Keep a copy of the move-out reading or service-end confirmation. If the dates disagree, ask the provider for an explanation before closing either address in the household record.

Tell the provider which address, period and reference appear on the bill and what date your confirmation gives. If it issues a correction, keep the old statement marked as replaced and the new one as current. Do not combine balances for two addresses simply because the same adult holds both accounts.
