Pack for the next use, not just the next address

For Monday’s music lesson, the instrument, case, sheet music, and any accessory needed to play may all have to arrive at the second home. Ask the adult at that home what they already have and what they need before leaving. Keep everyday items that genuinely belong in both homes off the transfer list. A smaller list makes the item that exists in only one place much easier to notice.

Check the items as the bag changes hands

Choose a visible packing spot and a final check when the bag changes hands. If an item is missing, agree whether the receiving adult can collect it later or whether departure needs to wait. Do not rely on a child to coordinate an adult recovery trip alone.

Give missing items an adult owner and a recovery time

Suppose the case reaches the second home but the music folder remains on a chair at the first. Agree which adult will bring it, whether the teacher can provide a copy, and when you must decide. Tell the person attending the lesson what to expect without asking them to negotiate transport between homes. When the folder returns, update the packing instructions if its usual storage place makes it easy to miss again.
