Check what needs to come back with the object
For a drill, list the drill body, battery, charger, case and any attachments the lender expects. If an accessory was never borrowed, say so rather than adding it to the return checklist by assumption. Agree on when the lender needs the tools next and whether they accept a third person returning them. Share only the contact details necessary for the exchange and confirm the intermediary can actually reach the lender.
Distinguish the courier’s handoff from the final return
Ask the lender to confirm receipt before considering the return complete. If a part is missing, tell them promptly and agree who will look for or replace it. Leaving the bag with an intermediary is a handoff, not confirmation that it reached its owner.
Handle an incomplete or damaged return promptly
If the lender receives the drill but cannot find the charger, ask what they actually received before starting another trip. Check the original list, the intermediary’s bag, and the place where the tool was used. Agree on a next action and when you will report back. Do not substitute a different charger or buy a replacement without consulting the lender. Mark the return complete when the lender confirms the agreed set or a different resolution.
