Map the recovery roles

If one person maintains the server, ask who can restore it when that person is away. Keep instructions that identify where authorized recovery material is held without copying the secrets into a shared checklist. Rehearse the handover with invented records first. List who can obtain the encrypted or protected backup, who controls any required key, who can start a restored service, and who is entitled to see the resulting data. App membership alone may not answer any of those questions.

Rehearse a real handover with fake data

Let a second authorized adult follow the instructions while the usual operator watches. Have them locate the sample backup, restore it to a separate destination and open the sample chat image and read its unique phrase. Note the first point where they need undocumented help. Fix that step and repeat it.

Keep access proportionate

A person who only needs the weekly calendar may not need restoration privileges. Store sensitive recovery material through the household’s chosen protected mechanism, reference it by location or role, and review access when the operator changes. Never use a complete family backup as a convenient way to send one schedule.
