How can we find a movie we haven’t already watched?

Start with the films your household has already seen. In Lumstead, give Movie night a mood and a time limit, then ask for one pick and two alternatives that are missing from your shared watch history. A missing title still needs a quick check with the people watching.

What you need

Movie night

Enable the movie module. To search the catalog, the server owner needs a TMDB credential. To ask the assistant for picks, connect a model that can use tools. You can maintain watch history by hand without either connection.

  1. Give the shortlist a starting point.

Add two or three films you remember well. Enter each title, release year, and watch date. Add a rating or a note such as “We liked the mystery, but the ending was too dark.” These details tell the assistant more about your taste than a list of titles alone.

  2. Give the evening a limit.

For example, ask for a light mystery under 100 minutes, with one reason for each pick. Ask Movie night to exclude watched films and check the running time in the catalog. If children will watch, check the local age rating and content notes yourself.

  3. Record the film you actually saw.

If you want to keep a suggestion for Friday, put it in a shared note. After the credits, use Save as watched and add your rating. This keeps a film you hope to see separate from a film the next search should skip.

Keep the limits clear.

The movie catalog gives film details. Check the streaming service for current availability in your country. An app installed on your TV does not establish that a particular film is included in your subscription.

Before you start

Can we import our Letterboxd history?

Yes. Unzip your Letterboxd export and select diary.csv, watched.csv, or ratings.csv in Movie night. Review the imported entries before adding another file.

Who can see the ratings and notes?

The watch history is shared with the household. If a rating or comment is personal, leave it out of the watch entry.
