Who can see your family AI chats and notes?

In Lumstead, each adult has a separate account. Your partner can read a note you share with the family. Your chats and private notes stay in your account. If you use a remote AI model, its provider receives the question and the information selected to answer it.

How do I share a list and keep a note private?

  1. In your own account, make a note called “Gift ideas.” Leave Share with my family clear and save. Its label reads Only you.
  2. Make a second note called “Saturday groceries,” select Share with my family, and save. Its label reads Shared with family.
  3. Ask your partner to open Notes in their own account. They should see the grocery list. The gift ideas stay in yours.

Use separate notes when only part of a list belongs to the family. Sharing a note makes its whole text visible. Anyone using your signed-in session can see what you see.

Can the family account owner read my private chat?

The owner can manage household membership. That role does not give them access to your chat history in the app. A person who controls the server or its backups has a different kind of access. A full backup contains private and shared records. Choose a server operator you trust.

Does “Only you” keep a note away from an AI provider?

The label controls who can open the note in Lumstead. If you ask a remote model to summarize that note, its provider receives the text used for the answer. A private chat also sends your question to the provider you select.

For example, putting Lumstead on a Mac mini keeps records on that Mac. Selecting a remote model still sends the request off the Mac. If model requests must stay at home, use a downloaded model on your own machine and check that it can handle the task.
