Read the confirmation while the signup is fresh

Record the account holder, trial service, end date, and what the provider says will happen next. Some offers require action before a stated deadline. Use the terms attached to your own trial and save the confirmation; do not assume a trial always ends at midnight on the final calendar day.

Give the household a decision date

Imagine a trial ends on May 20 and the account holder leaves for a trip May 16. Plan to decide on May 13. Ask who actually used the service, which features they used, and what the confirmed paid price would be. If nobody wants it, the account holder still needs to use the provider's cancellation route.

Check the result after the decision

Suppose a trial ends while the account holder is traveling. Decide before they leave or have them handle the change from their own account. Save any cancellation confirmation and check the next statement rather than assuming that removing an app changed the subscription.

If the subscription was started through an app store rather than directly with the vendor, use the route shown in the purchase record. Compare the plan name, account and paid period in any later charge with the confirmation. This can reveal a second subscription under a different account even when the cancellation you saved was successful.
