Calculate the viewing time, not just the gap on the clock
Ninety minutes from dinner to bedtime is the outer limit. If setting up takes five minutes and you want a ten-minute break, only 75 minutes remain for the film. Decide whether the finish time or the break can move before searching for a title that is unlikely to fit.
Verify the edition you can play
A title can have more than one cut. Look at the running time on the playback page for the edition you plan to use. A recommendation that says “about an hour and a half” is not precise enough for a household that must stop at a particular time.
Choose the evening you actually want
Ask for two titles that fit the remaining time. If the first choice streams with advertisements, its listed running time may not be its full viewing time. Check whether the service gives an estimate you can use. If the finish is firm, the included film with a predictable running time may be the better choice for this particular evening.
If you have enough time for a 74-minute film but only by rushing the conversation after dinner, choose a shorter episode or a different night. If you split the longer film, write down where you stopped and who wants to finish it. The choice between a complete short film and half a longer one belongs to the people watching.
