Admit only confirmed donations

Separate possessions their owners have approved from items still under discussion. Give the latter their own temporary spot. If one adult puts a coat in a donation box “just to see,” someone else can easily remove it in good faith before its owner has made a decision.

Confirm the destination before the trip

Give the box a destination and a departure date. Check what the receiving organization accepts before loading it into the car. If an item is rejected, bring it back to a named place and choose its next route rather than starting another unnamed pile by the door.

Check what the recipient accepts and when someone can deliver. A collection point may accept clothing but not furniture, or it may have limited hours. Write an actionable entry such as “two approved chairs, community hall accepted, Lee to deliver Saturday.” Reserve enough space and transport for the agreed items.

Resolve items that do not leave

If a destination declines an item, bring it back to a named place and decide the next action. Do not leave it outside an organization without permission or quietly return it to another household member's storage. Once the donation is accepted, clear the reminder and make space for the next set of confirmed decisions.
