Sort the calendar before leaving
Identify which tasks have flexible dates and which appointments or notices need attention during the trip. Reschedule a routine visit if no authorized person can be present. For a visit that stays, record the provider, time window, contact route, and which household member will receive decisions while away.
Give the helper a limited job
Write a short note for the person helping. Include the provider's name, the appointment window, and how to reach you for decisions. Do not assume a neighbor can approve work or grant access simply because they have a spare key. Agree on those details beforehand.
A neighbor might be willing to open the door but not approve work, pay a bill, or spend the morning on site. Ask for the specific action and explain what should happen if a provider asks for more. Give the helper a direct way to reach the authorized person without sharing unrelated account access.
Close the arrangement when you return
Check which visits occurred, which messages remain open, and who now owns the next task. If the provider is waiting for an answer, put that answer on the calendar with a date. Thank the helper and confirm that any keys, access arrangements, and temporary instructions have been returned or ended as agreed.
