Describe what physically leaves the house
Record the item, borrower, date, and pieces included. A picnic basket may include its lid, four cups, and a removable strap. Make a quick picture or list before handing it over, and agree on any condition or return arrangement that matters to both people.
Give the reminder a reasonable trigger
Agree on a return plan that suits both people. “Bring it when you visit next month” is reasonable if the date exists; otherwise put a reminder on your calendar. Close the entry when all pieces return, and ask about anything missing before lending the set again.
A confirmed visit next Sunday can serve as the planned return. If no visit is set, choose a date to check in rather than inventing a guaranteed return time. Keep the reminder with the item record so another household member understands why the basket is missing from its usual shelf.
Close the loan on physical return
When the basket comes back, check its parts and ask about anything missing while the trip is still recent. If a friend returns it through someone else, confirm which person actually has it now. Restore the item to its ordinary home and remove the reminder only after the agreed return has happened.
