Start with the next job due

Walk through one open issue in person or in a brief note. Give the new housemate the model, ticket number, promised date, and next action. “Call Tuesday if the provider has not confirmed the washer part” is easier to take over than a folder of old receipts and unanswered emails.

Move the contact role deliberately

Transfer relevant access through the appropriate account controls. Do not pass around someone else's login details. If a housemate is leaving, agree who will receive future service messages and update the contact information where the provider allows it.

Ask whether the provider can update its named contact or grant suitable household access. Do not hand over another person's password or leave appointment messages going to someone who has moved out. If an account cannot transfer, record which person remains authorized and how the housemate should request help.

Confirm the first handoff in practice

Ask the new owner to find the ticket and explain their next step. If the service reference or permission is missing, resolve that gap before the visit. Update the shared maintenance list only after the new person has accepted the task. A name changed on a spreadsheet is not by itself a transfer of responsibility.
